INVESTING IN EXPANDING BAYSWATER’S URBAN FOREST

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest $800,000 in Stage 2 of the City of Bayswater’s Urban Forest Project, helping restore native habitat and growing our urban canopy.

This $800,000 election commitment from the Albanese Labor Government will enable the delivery of Stage 2 works in the Carters Wetland area, taking another significant step toward realising the full vision for the Riverside Gardens Urban Forest.

Located within Riverside Gardens East, the Urban Forest is transforming underutilised open space into a vibrant natural landscape featuring species native to Perth.

The project supports the long-term survival of endangered species that rely on urban green spaces as safe stopovers between increasingly fragmented habitats.

Stage 2 of the Urban Forest project will include site restoration, planting more than 7,000 native trees. The project will also install community infrastructure such as pathways, seating, and interpretive signage.

Located adjacent to the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary and the Swan River, this site plays a vital role in creating wildlife corridors that connect bushland across Perth’s northern suburbs.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Patrick Gorman MP, Federal Member for Perth:

“Urban forest projects in Bayswater are vital for biodiversity and for people.

“This funding will help grow the tree canopy, provide food and shelter for black cockatoos and give the community a beautiful space for generations to come.”
